As each item is scanned, either manually or by an online automatic scanner it sends a record to a transaction history in the database or to a simple text file. The data mapping facility within S-link enables several tables to be updated from a single barcode scan.As an example, imagine an order is sent to the production line in the manufacture of 10 wooden pallets. This involves three processes: 1. Cutting the wood to lengths, nailing, and adding four blocks for the feet. As each bundle of wood is cut, the first 'cutting' barcode is scanned and the bundle is passed to the next process for assembling and nailing it together. on completion of this process. The 'nailing' barcode is scanned and finally when the feet are attached the 'feet' barcode is scanned. There are now three records in the transaction history and one record of the ordernumber table showing 1 made and 9 to make |
